Short Films
I have written and directed a number of my own short films. These projects were mostly self funded projects. I have also worked as a director of photography, camera-op or gaffer on many short films and productions through the years.
"The Old Factory" 2026
“In March 2026 My writing partner and friend Matthew was sending me voice messages while he explored an old factory to take photographs. He was never seen again. Gardai found his camera and one bloody shoe that may have been his. They sent me the photos to see could I help with the investigation. I gave them the audio he had sent me. This is his last moments…”
This experiement with Analog Horror combining still images with audio recordings was an organic project that started as a simple idea while I photographed an old factory. I shared voice messages and images with my production partner Johnny. I then used these recordings to build a story, augmented with additional sound effects and photo editing.
This was a fun experiement expanding into multi-media with a fast turnaround. Definetly a media I will be experimenting with again.
"The Human Mark" 2022
The short film shows the mark of humanity on natural landscapes. How we carve roads and buildings into the earth. In the name of progress. Things are changing. Engineers are now more environmentally conscious of the effects that their work has on the planet. Civil Engineers are creating safe spaces for wildlife built into how they plan new roads and routes. Working with nature to assist in flood water management and encouraging bio diversity. We have come a long way as a species. But we have still left a mark on the earth and changed it forever.
"All The Stars Are Red" 2020
A lone space traveller is forced to spend six weeks in the orbit of a dying red star to recharge his ship’s fuel cells. He slowly struggles with isolation, boredom and his sanity as red becomes the only colour he can see.
This was a solo project shot almost entirely with green screen and a miniature set. A much larger sci-fi project had been planned but due to world changing events a new story about a lone man was created.
Written, Directed and Starring Shane Collier.
Awards:
Special Selection at the Intergalactic Film Festival 2021.
All the Stars Are Red was a full solo project where I did everything due to isolation. I tested out a number skills including building my first miniature. What started as a fun art project and experiment turned into a full short film. I had only done a small amount of acting before. I had fun throwing myself into the role. It was a very different challenge. I have been a Sci-Fi fan my whole life and it was great to use different techniques to build and shoot something within one of my favourite genres.

"Practice" Behind the Scene Documentary
As part of entering our film into the MyRodeReel competition we had to shoot a behind the scene documentary. We faced a lot of technical challenges during this shoot. I wanted to capture an authentic looking old Dublin street. This required some set dressing with sand and paint as we removed modern looking graffiti and hid road markings. Sound was a big issue. We recorded only reference sound on the day and the final film’s sound scape and dialogue was recorded separately in a make shift studio with ADR and Foley work.
"Out" 2014
A man struggles with his inner demons and fears of the outside world.
Written and Directed by Shane Collier
Starring Steve Heartland
Produced by Johnny Daly
Director of Photography Kenneth Adams
Sound by Any Flaherty
Music By Darren Hatch
I wanted to tell a small human story about one person’s struggle. Working with a great crew of my peers we filmed over one day working with the talented Steve Heartland. The aim was to highlight his isolation and his crippling agoraphobia. I took a slow approach to this story letting the emotions unfold. He has good days and bad days. Sometimes he makes it to the porch, others he can’t even look at the front door. Life outside is terrifying to this man.
